圖書館邀請本校ICUSTA交換教師—美國德州聖湯瑪士大學圖書館資訊素養館員Mr. Joseph Goetz演講,本專題演講目的是探討圖書館館員與教師合作教學對學生學習之效益及評估,並分享圖書館線上參考諮詢服務及利用教育的實務經驗。

1.Getting the Answers Out: Online Reference and Instruction Using LibAnswers Q&A Software for Libraries.
Like many university libraries, Doherty Library at the University of St. Thomas is committed to serving distance learners equivalently to its on-campus patrons. To that end, we developed numerous online guides and tutorials to help students learn library procedures and research techniques. But as these materials multiplied, the problem arose of their findability. After trying other methods of creating an organized platform for our online instructional materials, the UST Libraries implemented LibAnswers, the question and answer software from Springshare. The design of this software offers a clear path forward for making online reference as equivalent as possible to in-person reference. At the same time, it raises new problems. In this presentation Mr. Goetz will analyze LibAnswers as a tool and set out best practices for its implementation. In the process he will go over some basic issues with providing online library instruction and reference services to distance students.

如同許多大學圖書館一樣,美國德州休士頓St. Thomas大學圖書館致力於對遠距課程學生提供等同於實體校園中讀者的服務。為達到此目標,圖書館建置了許多線上指引及自學系統,以幫助學生認識圖書館的規則與提升個人的研究技能。當這些資料大幅增加的時候,如何找到所需要參考的指引成為一個問題。在嘗試過多種將大量使用指引整合於單一平台的方法後,美國德州休士頓St. Thomas大學圖書館建置了LibAnswers系統,此系統為Springshare公司所開發的問答軟體。這套軟體在設計上提供清楚的路徑,使線上參考諮詢盡可能和面對面諮詢有同樣的效果。但這套軟體同時也引發了新的問題。在這場演講中,Mr. Goetz將分析LibAnswers這個工具的優缺點,並闡述如何將LibAnswers建置為最佳實務。除此之外,Mr. Goetz也會就提供遠距課程學生線上利用教育與參考服務的一些基本議題加以說明
2.Embedded for Learning: Enrichment and Assessment Through Embedded Librarian Collaboration.
Embedded librarians enrich student learning by collaborating with teaching faculty to expand library instruction beyond the traditional library orientation session. At the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, librarian Joe Goetz has conducted an embedded librarian project since 2010 with the School of Education’s action research proposal course for Masters degree students. Using student feedback and performance data, Mr. Goetz has evaluated and developed his role in the class in partnership with the course’s director. In this way they have developed powerful interventions leading to strong student performance with manageable time investment by the instructor and librarian. In this presentation, Mr. Goetz will discuss his ongoing collaboration with the School of Education and its benefits for students and the library.

嵌入學生的學習:探討內嵌館員(embedded librarian)介入課程與老師合作教學對學生學習成效所產生的助益與方案評估
摘要:
藉由與老師的合作,內嵌館員得以充實學生的學習經驗,將傳統圖書館利用教育推展至另一層次。美國德州休士頓St. Thomas大學圖書館館員Mr. Joe Goetz從2010年開始,即與該校教育學院所開設的「行動研究」碩士班課程合作。Mr. Goetz蒐集學生的回饋意見及學業表現的資料,從中評估並發展他與課程教師在合作關係中的定位或角色。透過這樣的方式,Mr. Goetz與課程教師發展出彼此介入的有效教學模式,在投入合理的時間情況下,學生的學習成果十分可觀。Mr. Goetz將於此演講中探討他與教育學院持續的合作關係,以及如此合作模式對學生與圖書館的益處。
